Vice President

Paul Chau, P. Eng., joined OnQuest's Born Canada operating company in January of 2003 as a Control Systems Engineer. He currently leads our instrumentation and control systems unit, which specializes in burner management systems and related safety and process controls.

In this role, Paul manages BMS projects of varying size and complexity from inception to commission, and has completed projects from Ontario to Indonesia to California. His responsibilities include specifying and selecting instrumentation, designing control panels, and designing and programming control systems (PLCs), along with supervising startup.

Prior to joining the OnQuest companies, Paul was an Instrumentation & Control Systems Engineer at Combustion Automation, Inc., in Calgary, from December 2002 until January 2003. At Combustion Automation, he completed BMS projects for clients in North America and Africa.

Before joining Combustion Automation, Paul was a Control Systems Engineer with Fluor Daniel International Svcs., Inc., where he joined in the design and engineering for the primary process units for Shell Canada's Athabasca Oil Sands Downstream project (AOSDP) While at Fluor Daniel, Paul also installed, configured, and administered the DCS for the Chevron Chemicals' polystyrene plant in Zhangjiagang, China. From 1997 to 1998, Paul was a Project Engineer for Spartan Controls, also in Calgary.

Paul is familiar with DCS including Fisher Provox, ABB Advant, and Honeywell TPS, and PLCs including Allen-Bradley ControlLogix, PLC5, and SLC504, Siemens S7-300, Safety Systems, and Yokogawa PofSafe. He earned his B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering with an emphasis in Computer Process Controls at the University of Alberta. Paul is also a MCP+1 Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) and has completed a range of post-baccalaureate technical courses in safety systems, networking, and related technology applications.
