Roger Newnham
President, Born Canada

Roger Newnham, Mech. E., C. Eng., Eur. Ing., has over thirty years' experience in the petroleum and petrochemical industries, having worked during his career first as a mechanical engineer, then as a project engineer on direct-fired heater design, engineering, and installation, and for the past seventeen years as President of Born Heaters Canada, a role in which he continues after his sale of the company to OnQuest in 2005. Roger has worked extensively in Britain, Europe, North Africa, the Middle East, and the Far East on numerous fired-heater applications.

Roger formed Born Canada—formerly a satellite office of Tulsa-based Born Heaters, Inc.—as an independent company in January of 1988. Since that time the company has completed well in excess of 200 furnace projects for clients worldwide. During that time, Born Canada developed specific expertise in burner management systems, and has provided clients with design, engineering, and other services related to refractory installation, burner revamps, and the installation and maintenance of direct-fired heaters.

Roger was a Senior Project Manager for SNC/FW Fired Heaters, Ltd., in Calgary, from 1984-1987. At SNC/FW, he had overall responsibility for design, engineering, fabrication, and construction of heaters on projects for a range of Canadian companies, and had responsibility to control and manage engineering and implementation costs. Before that, Roger was a Senior Project Engineer and Project Manager for the Petroleum Corporation of New Zealand, where he had overall engineering responsibility for the first onshore oil production facility in the country. Previous positions included working as a Senior Project Engineer and Area Construction Superintendent for Alberta Gas Chemicals from 1981-1983; and as a Mechanical Engineer for Fluor Canada Ltd., in Calgary, from 1980-81. From 1973 to 1980, he was a mechanical engineer at Born Heaters, Ltd., in Brighton, England, where he specialized in direct-fired heater process design, engineering, construction planning, costing, and installation.

Roger is a Member of the Fédération Européenne d'Associations Nationales d'Ingénieurs (FEANI), and of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers. He received his B.Sc. at Brighton University in Brighton, England. Born in the U.K., he is a naturalized citizen of Canada.
